What is the importance of a brand? How do you give a brand value? Jane Piper is an independent specialist with over 20 years experience in creating, managing and measuring valuable brands. In this seminar, Jane will discuss what is important for SMEs in identifying their brand's value, and will offer tips on strategies to grow and manage value creation, as well as highlight the commercial benefits associated with a strong brand.

James Averdieck, the founder of  Gü Chocolate Puds, gave up a corporate career to launch his chocolate dream.  Inspired by Belgian chocolate patisserie, he saw an opportunity for high quality chocolate desserts. He formed a joint venture with an existing patisserie supplier and the first Gü products were developed - restaurant quality mouth watering desserts. James is here to tell the story of how the products were developed, how the brand came about and how he got the products into the supermarkets. This inspiring story has important lessons for any entrepreneur setting out on their journey and is a case study into how to launch a new brand in a competitive market.

Creativity, critical thinking, time management, organisation and goal setting - these are some of the essential skills with which teenagers must be equipped in order to excel in life beyond school. What is it about traditional education systems and social contexts that hinder the development of such skills, and what can we do to help children bridge the gap?

Amidst economic turmoil and financial speculation in the EU region, the euro zone summit held in October 2011 has set ambitious goals of recovery, financial stability and job creating growth. A stronger and deeper union, both fiscal and economic is advocated by euro zone leaders, together with bank recapitalisation and reforms to ensure the sustainability of public finance. Big steps have been agreed, but has enough been done to contain the public debt crisis? This is not a British Chamber event.

His bright political resume, which started in the 70s, highlights titles such as Finance Minister and Prime Minister of Belgium (1999-2008). Guy Verhofstadt is a fervent pan-European known for his strong pro-European position, his support for Eurobonds and his views on how to tackle the current (European) crises.
