UK Chancellor of the Exchequer visit to Hong Kong

UK Chancellor's visit boosts ever stronger business and investment ties
10 November 2010
Open markets and trade and economic partnership were the key themes for the Chancellor's visit to Hong Kong.
Having been in Beijing for the UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue and the UK-China Summit earlier in the week, the Chancellor will be meeting up with the Prime Minister David Cameron for the G20 Summit in Seoul following Hong Kong.

During his stay in Hong Kong, Mr Osborne called on Hong Kong SAR Government Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Financial Secretary John Tsang.  In addition, he met key inward-investors into the UK and business leaders in the finance, manufacturing and property development sectors.  He was also briefed on Hong Kong's substantial infrastructure projects, with emphasis the opportunities for partnership with UK businesses.

Mr Osborne delivered a speech at a luncheon co-hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Association of Banks.  He shared with the guests his thoughts on global imbalances, the upcoming G20, and the UK's economic relationship with Hong Kong and China.

Mr Osborne was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in Britain's Coalition Government in May 2010.  In his first six months in office he has led the effort to ensure the UK's economic recovery. On 20 October he announced the UK's Spending Review, in which he called for an ambitious plan to create one of the most competitive business environments in the world.
